Today’s drawing brings me back to my childhood home back in Kinross Street in Blockhouse bay. It’s not my best drawing. Quick and dirty today. I’ve already lost mobility in my pinky finger on my drawing hand, and my ring finger looks to be following suit. Some days it’s harder than others to draw straight lines. Today’s just one of those days. Muscular Dystrophy can bite me, haha.
In other news, I’ve started sending out query letters to literary agents for my books. I’ve got a lot to learn on how to do it but eventually I may find someone willing to pick me up. I’m hopeful. I’m sure I’ll get rejected scores of times before I learn how to do it properly, which is fine. All part of learning the business.
I’ve also started working on my next book, titled Marlin the Mouse, which is the life story of the founding mouse of Mistlehop and her friends. I’ve just been roughing in scenes and dialogue between the characters. Once I sit down today and pull out save the cat, I’m going to make a multi-arced book for different parts of her life. Then it’s just a matter of breaking out 5,000 word days until it’s done. Shouldn’t take more than a few weeks to get it done. My best so far is a 71,000 word book in 14 days. I think this will take 3-4 weeks working Monday to Friday. So I’ll be working with my save the cat format and I’ll build a childhood arc, a young adult arc, where Marlin and her long time friend are forced to become nomadic and set out on their own. Then I’ve got to figure out a bad guy, who I think will play a friend to them at first. He’s going to be a white fox that wears tin armor. Not much protection, but lightweight and suitable for quick and dirty fighting. All shine no substance. He’ll pretend to be virtuous, but the only thing light about him is his hide.
In another note, I’ve gotten copies of all of the Redwall books on my kindle, so I’m reading through that for an hour a day. I don’t want to copy anything Mr. Jacques did. Other than naming the founding mouse Marlin, as an homage to Martin the mouse in his series. I do my best not to copy others works, but I am reading his writing style to learn from that. It’s gorgeous.
I’ve got 22 books to read to get through his series and I’m looking forward to it.
Other than that, I hope you have a wonderful day. I’m off to work on this book, after my morning walk and reading.
